It’s a Monday People

brokenpc Haven’t been over here in a while. Things have gone crazy this summer and I’m not really doing anything except working and taking classes. I also took the kids to camp like I do every year. Never set yourself up with TWO history classes and a C++ programming class in one semester. Either way, I’m getting it done until the research papers are due next month and then I’m gonna drown in writing.

Today was a disaster at work too. I got in a 6 AM as I am early shift this week and hoping to get some homework done prior to the due dates so I can work on the research papers. So far I haven’t managed that as I got home at 3:30 and it’s over 2 hours later now.

So what happened today? Well, anything that could break essentially did. One of the modules in our medical record system went kaput because apparently they wanted us to use the new updated module that we received just last week but haven’t tested yet. Over the weekend they killed the older version without letting anybody know. Of course the module they killed off was the communication module between the staff and doctors.

So, we were getting tons of emails in from that as well as phone calls UNTIL the email went down. Yep, both servers had a failure. Go figure. So then we were getting phone calls only to then realize that the phone system was going wonky too and you couldn’t call certain numbers and it was a hit or miss as to the number you were dialing that worked or not. So essentially every single form of communication was hit lol

Fun times eh?

Wow, Just Wow

frazzledI despise technology companies sometimes. We were told that a program worked on Windows 7 as we are upgrading all the computers. low and behold after we upgrade the program doesn’t work. Shocker.

It was a 2 man team to get these running as I did one part and he got that program working. The other person went back in at 6 AM this morning and called the company again because we were there until almost 8 PM last night. Once we got the company they then told us that no, it doesn’t work on Win7. Can you say WTF? We were told it did work 2 weeks ago. So then we reimage these computers not once but twice because the first one was a wrong image for it to work on. THEN 3 HOURS later they email with instructions that it DOES in fact work on Win7. I mean WTF. This time we are putting it on some boxes to test out to verify before we go through that again. I mean what a cluster fuck.

Can You Say WTF?!?

airconSo the a/c got more freon in it and a “fix” for the leak since they found it. Guess what, my a/c isn’t working anymore. I tell the owner who lives in the other half and she goes “well, I’m going to have to raise your rent to pay for a new one which is about $1500” What THE fuck?!? Why does MY rent have to go up and pay for this shit when she owns the damn thing? I can’t afford this, I can barely afford my rent and bills now. I have no credit cards or anything like that. Just rent, utilities, car insurance. I have THREE, count them THREE jobs right now since I can’t find a full time position and can’t really pay for everything. My account is always in the negative. She is effin nuts.

A/C Problems

acunit So I get home Friday and the a/c doesn’t work AGAIN. You have no idea how cheap the owner is. Every couple years she gets this guy to refill the freon knowing it won’t last because there is a leak in the line somewhere. They have no idea where because she doesn’t let them look for it. But mind you, she has had her a/c unit completely replaced as well as her fridge, stove, and dishwasher. This place was built in the early 70s. The a/c unit is original to the place. You do the math.

So here I sit with no a/c, a fan going in each of the upstairs bedrooms because one of the bedrooms is my office and I can’t afford to have anything melt like the last time this happened (some of the components in my tower melted). I have a window unit in the downstairs living room to cool the downstairs for the dogs. I still have NO idea when or if some guy is going to refill the freon (I was told he would be by yesterday which didn’t happen – nor an update) or she is actually going to buy a new unit. I can only guess how much I’m going to end up paying for my electric this coming month due to the window unit running nonstop because it wasn’t made for this place, only 1 room. The downstairs consists of the living room, the kitchen and a half-bath to which door is always closed. It doesn’t cool the kitchen completely, just what blows through the doorway.

Wednesday Hodgepodge #16

1. What question do you often ask yourself?
“Why am I doing this?” That pretty much goes for anything I’m doing.

2. Do you grow roses? What’s your favorite color of rose? Ever been given a dozen roses? Where was the prettiest rose or rose garden you remember seeing?
I do not grow roses. My mother used to grow them at the house we grew up in though. She managed to mix red, orange, and white. They were pretty. I like the yellow roses. I have been given a dozen roses before by an exboyfriend. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a rose garden.

3. Do you read the freshness dates on grocery store products? Will you use eggs past their ‘use by’ date? Take medication that’s expired? Buy a dented can?
I do read the freshness dates on products. I do use my eggs waaay past the post date. It is just a suggestion for eggs. You can use them up to 5 weeks after the date. I’ve bought dented cans before. I don’t see the issue in it so long as it is still sealed tight. I’ve not used medication past the expiration date because the chemicals break down and are not active anymore.

4. Should athletes be role models?
Yes and no. In honesty, I don’t see why they should except for the fact that kids put them up on pedestals which in turn makes them role models.

5. Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal became the first explorers to reach the top of Mt. Everest on this date (May 29) back in 1953. What’s something you hope to achieve in your lifetime?
At this point I hope to find a job that I love in the computer field with a pay to commensurate the work I am doing. I’d like to be able to only have to work one job.

6. What would you do if you had twenty acres of land and the money to develop it any way you choose?
Townhomes/apartments. There is is HUGE money in that. I’d reserve about 4 acres for myself though to place my own house and yard on it.

7. If I invite you to a party with a 7 PM start time, what time will I actually see you there?
I’m punctual on everything I do but parties are a whole other animal. I don’t like to be early or on time if I’m not helping because that somehow seems needy to me.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Right now I’m having to uninstall/reinstall display drivers for my NVIDIA card due to a lab that I had to install certain software. I haven’t even really started and this has totally pissed me off. My laptop locked up while I was in the lab and had to do a hard reboot and it effed up my display settings. The lab has to be in 1024×700 mode to be done. And now my display shows mobile pc instead of my NVIDIA and I have no option to change that. I’ve already contacted their sad state of support and have already been escalated :/

obamatwitter Yes I follow what nonsense comes out of the White House on twitter. If they are going to use it I’m going to follow it.

This one tweet just rubs me the wrong way on soooo many different levels though. It is required, by I believe 2015, every last person in this country, who is legal mind you, have health insurance. Whether this be through the company you work for or just on your own. Yes, going to the doctor, surgeries, and medicines are expensive. Having health insurance helps this so you can avoid going broke.

What really pisses me off is the fact that, depending on where you work or IF you work, you may not have the money to pay for health insurance every month. Requiring people to purchase insurance or pay a fine if you do not is absurd. I’m sure every person would love to have health insurance but they just CANNOT afford it and to give them a fine because they cannot ….
